The Uncertainty Of The Poet

I am a poet,
I am very fond of bananas.

I am bananas,
I am very fond of a poet.

I am a poet of bananas.
I am very fond.

A fond poet of 'I am, I am' -
Very bananas.

Fond of Am I bananas
Am I? - a very poet.

Bananas of a poet!
Am I fond? Am I very?

Poet bananas! I am
I am fond of a 'very'.

I am of very fond bananas.
Am I a poet?

~ Wendy Cope (inspired by the painting above by Georgio De Chirico)

  1. It's really twisted, some sort of zen ...extentialism

  2. Extentialism! Hmm didnt know the meaning, so looked it up.
    1. A philosophical movement embracing the view that the suffering individual must create meaning in an unknowable, chaotic, and seemingly empty universe.

    2. A doctrine which emphasizes the difference between human existence and that of inanimate objects. Later supporters of this philosophy saw human beings as self-created; they are not initially endowed with characteristics but choose their own characteristics by ‘leaps’. Thus a person may be said to believe in God because he or she has chosen to do so. Other existentialists see that the only certainty for each one of us is death, and that the individual must live in the knowledge of that certainty.

Anonymous, I presume you are describing the painting.

I do love the contrast shown with the inanimate objects. The torso and bananas, and train movement in the background. The train in motion adds the hint of life to this inanimate scene.

  3. Sorry to be anal, do you mean existentialism? If yes I am missing the connection.
